It was first sighted on the 10th of February 1934 and named as object 1934 CT before being lost. 4179 Toutatis remained a lost asteroid for several decades until it was rediscovered on the 4th of January 1989 by Christian Pollas and named after the Celtic god Toutatis. It is an S-type or stony asteroid and radar imagery shows that it has a highly irregular body consisting of two distinct lobes, with maximum widths of about 2.85 miles and 1.49 miles respectively...
