Our work explains basics of engine and thermodynamics involved in it. Formation of combustion products and chemical equilibrium between the combustion products formed are key challenges of ic engine’s. Requirement of new engines to overcomes those challenges. Discussing about the tribological material and its interaction inside the ic engines, we seek for specialized coatings in order to provide a catalytic combustion chamber which enhances combustion, increases efficiency of the engines, reduces emission of pollutants, and reduces wear of the tribological materials and extending their life. Selection of coatings based upon the desired characteristics for the overall upliftment of the engine performance. Thermal barrier coating and nanocoatings of the desired material can be achieved with atmosphere plasma sprayed coating (aps) and high velocity oxy-fuel coating (hvof) technologies which can be applied on the desired surface for achieving better efficiency from the engines which effects and consequences of coating on ic engine performance.
