One of the oldest protestant denominations in Liberia, Baptists have played an important role in both Liberia's political and religious life. Prominent Baptists were among the early settlers. Also the Providence Baptist Church, one of the oldest protestant churches in Liberia, hosted the signing of the Declaration of Independence of Liberia. Baptists were also pioneers of theological education in Liberia and West Africa. The Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary, one of the oldest Christian theological higher education institutions in West Africa, has been instrumental in the training of men and women for the propagation of the gospel of Jesus Christ not only in Liberia, but also all over Africa. Anyone interested in historically understanding Christian theological higher education in Liberia and especially the role of Liberian Baptists will find this book helpful. It offers an historical look at the Liberia Baptist Theological seminary documenting its rise, development and growth in the midst of glory days and challenging times. The book also examines the future of the seminary in light of the changing landscape of Christian theological higher education in Liberia.
