The goal ultimately of this study was to provide information for policy makers and interested stakeholders on how to improve urban physical infrastructure such as safe water and sanitation for households living in informal settlements such as the Jacha informal settlement. This study was informed theoretically by the livelihood conceptual framework. This framework constitutes various elements which, for the purposes of this study included the vulnerability context , the livelihood assets households posses in coping with vulnerability contexts, the livelihood strategies as well as the livelihood outcomes.
