Due to the evolving global markets such as employment, education and tourism, English language teaching is becoming more and more of a necessity. The textbook is the main platform and source of educational content for pupils and a critical didactic aid for teachers within the educational process of language teaching. This publication analyses and compares English language textbooks and their significant impact on the teaching and learning processes. This publication discusses the functions, characteristics and components of the textbook. Additionally, advantages and disadvantages of using textbooks are critiqued. Lastly, it contains reasons for evaluation, approaches to evaluation and criteria for assessment. The research focuses on selected textbooks; evaluating and comparing them to provide a platform for future textbooks to be written.
