This thesis investigated 3D Head Modeling for Model Based Video Coding.Model based video coding techniques have attracted considerable interest in multimedia applications where bandwidth considerations are of utmost importance. 3D facial synthesis has been frequently used in model based video coding applications. The book presents an implementation of a 3D head model, its adaptation algorithm to adapt the model to the different faces and a texture mapping method using two orthogonal face images to solve several 3D estimation problems. The frames between the front and the side view are successfully estimated. The experimental results show that the overall facial synthesis system increases the visual quality of the synthesized frames while achieving acceptable Peak Signal to Noise Ratio values.
