Slave resistance in the Roman empire, particularly rebellion, has received much attention by scholars. However, to date, no works have been written on female slave resistance. This monograph shows why and how slave-women resisted. The forms they used ranged from employing various forms of magic, running away, and stealing from the master, as well as resorting to violent means such as murder and suicide.
