Education and gender equity rank among basic issues of development economics. This book is devoted to gender disparities in education. Its main objective is to describe in depth current situation of inequalities and to analyse in new, inventive ways their structure. First part of the book provides specification of most problematic geographical areas, description of available empirical statistics and insight into historical evolution of the problem. Then it extensively discusses the most frequent causes and possible solutions of gender inequalities in education, as well as main economic and political reasons for their elimination. Second part is devoted to extensive empirical analyses. First of them describes characteristic features following from depiction of distribution of gender gap values over countries. It also comments on influence of economic development. The other one compares two inequality stages – Access to education and Quality of obtained education. This approach proved that girls much often experience higher inequality in access to education than in its subsequent quality.
