The increasing globalization of the world economy fundamentally changes the way companies do business and creates a more and more complex business environment. To succeed in this new environment, academics and practitioners view individual global mindset – the cognitive global abilities of key decision makers – as a critical source of long-term competitive advantage. This book deals with the development of individual global mindsets. The main focus lies on the factors influencing and the measures that foster the cultivation of a global mindset. This subject matter is examined through the analysis of 13 in-depth expert interviews with international mangers of Austrian companies. The findings indicate that global mindset development is seen as an important topic by most organizations and managers. Almost all organizations in the sample offer training measures to foster the development of global mindsets in their employees. It is moreover found that managers and employees themselves are also expected to contribute to the cultivation of a mindset which is more global.
