Language learning strategies have been receiving ever-growing attention in the areas of foreign language teaching and learning . Many scholars believe that the use of some strategies could be related to culture and educational system in any country since learners may have limited opportunities to use some functional practice strategies . It is necessary for a language teacher today to familiarize the learners with the most common language learning strategies. Iranian learners tend to use memorization and repetition of structures and sounds a lot and again this is due to educational system of Iran . Regarding the role that gender plays in strategy use, the results of this study indicated that female learners use compensation and affective strategies more than male learners.
