This book was originally written in 2004 as a guide to literary criticism for student teachers who were majoring in English at Marymount Teachers' College, Mutare, Zimbabwe. Feedback on its usefulness from both students and colleagues encouraged the author to revisit the manuscript with the view to making adjustments for wider readership and academic service. This book seeks to equip the student and the aspiring teacher of English with basic tools of literary analysis. It is an introductory text which is meant to be an aid to study. Students are therefore expected to supply the skeletal framework availed to them with flesh.
