Competence-based language teaching in Tanzania and many parts of Africa is still new. This work titled "Materials design and Assessments in Competence-Based Language Teaching" is a result of a research done in Tanzania about the English language teaching under a new paradigm of Competence-based education. The work brings to light the newly coined concept of Competence-based language teaching (CBLT) and how can be put into practice in the classroom. Its significance and challenges basing on the curriculum aspects such as materials design and methods of assessment have been clearly discussed by the author. Readers will find it very useful in addressing various challenges related to implementation of competence-based education and language teaching in particular.
