This study discusses Chinese idioms which are related to emotions through the looking glass of metaphor and culture. Idiom has a long history. It is the wisdom of the Chinese. It has been developed and accumulated since ancient civilizations. Idioms related to emotions are very important for us to know how the Chinese constructed emotions in their language. The importance and significance of emotions in Chinese idioms set the foundation of this study. One of the objectives of this study is to examine the source and target domains of the metaphors in Chinese idioms. Besides, this study also aims to investigate the relationship between Chinese idiom, religion and Chinese philosophy.
