This book covers the various approaches of synthesis of trifluoromethylated piperidinic alkaloids and related compounds. The author has focused on the asymmetric synthesis of these compounds using Mannich Reaction as key step which is said be an efficient and convinient tool towards the synthesis of piperidine skeleton. Fluorintaed organics occupy an important place in the pharmaceutical as well as agrochemistry. When fluorine atom or a trifluoromethyl group is incorporated into biologically active compounds such as piperidines, it improves greatly the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of these compounds. Keeping in view the immense importance of such compounds, the author has realized the synthesis of trifluoromethylated piperidines, indolizidines and pipecolic acids.
