Shape description and analysis is a fundamental problem in image processing and pattern recognition. Efficient shape representation provides the foundation for the development of efficient algorithms for many shape related processing tasks, such as image coding, character recognition, image classification, shape matching, object recognition, content based video processing and image data retrieval. In this book, various methods and classification approaches are presented using morphology for child and adulthood classification, effective face recognition and classification of textures based on extensive empirical studies. This study should help in further research to generate new shape representation schemes based on wavelet transforms, genetic implementations and neural networks for classification and recognition problems. These empirical studies should be useful to researchers as well as professionals in the field of image processing and can find many applications and stimulate further research in the field of image processing and mathematical morphology.
