Tribology is the science and technology of friction, wear and lubrication of interacting surfaces in relative motion. Thermosetting polymers, such as polyesters and epoxies, exhibit several useful characteristics due to the high degree of cross-linking between individual polymer chains. Typical qualities include a high glass transition temperature, high modulus and specific strength, creep resistance, and good solventresistance. The sliding wear performance of Epoxy composites filled with nano-sized Al2O3 particles was studied in this paper. For this study, Al2O3 nano particles were synthesized by solution combustion process and size was found to be 28nm from X-ray Diffraction (XRD),Particle size distribution was estimated by Particle Size Analyser, Morphology of Al2O3 nanoparticles by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Ultraviolet–visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy for energy band gap of Al2O3 nano particles. Epoxy/ Al2O3 nano composite was synthesized with Al2O3 nano particles and resin with different hardeners like K-6, K-47 with appropriate amounts. The wear performances were studied by using pin-on-disc set up.
